Rondel Dagger (Wallace Collection A729)
Circular flat POMMEL, or Rondel, with slight convex surface with a small recticulated pattern, secured to the hilt by a square washer incised with a diamond; slender. tubular grip incised with a fretted ornament; small oval GUARD for the hand, bent over at one side parallel with the blade; BLADE of triangular section with hollow sides. A maker’s mark 2 3/8 inches (6.0) from the hilt…1
The original is on display in the Wallace Collection, London (Object A729).
- Blade length: 273mm
- Blade width at base: 13mm
- Weight: 250g
The reproduction is as true to the original as possible, with a little guesswork about the grip construction. I opted for a wooden core with the decorated steel cover.
